MEMORIAL DAY HOLIDAY WEEKEND SCHEDULE AND BAKER-BARRY TUNNEL CLOSURE |
CONSTRUCTION UPDATE: There will be no construction activities or delays in the Marin Headlands, including Alexander Avenue, from noon Friday, May 24th through Monday May 27th. Construction activities, including truck traffic through the tunnel, will resume on Tuesday May 28th at 8:00 am with up to 15 minute delays on Bunker Road, Old Bunker Road, and Mitchell Road.
TUNNEL REMAINS CLOSED TO VEHICLES: Due to unsafe conditions in the tunnel and on a portion of road, the Baker-Barry Tunnel and Bunker Road to McCullough Road will continue to be closed to all vehicles through Memorial Day. All motor vehicles must use Conzelman Road to enter and exit the Headlands. (See map for detour route)
TUNNEL BIKE ACCESS: Bicyclists will be allowed to use the tunnel in both directions from noon on Friday May 24th through Monday May 27th. Starting back on Tuesday May 28th, bicyclists will be only allowed to use the tunnel before 8:00 am and after 5:00 pm on weekdays and all day during weekends. During construction hours of 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on weekdays, all bicycles must use Conzelman Road to enter and exit the Headlands. (See map for detour route)

UNPAVED ROAD CONDITIONS AND ADVISED BICYCLE AND PEDESTRIAN DETOUR ON ALEXANDER AVE |
Please expect unpaved road conditions on Alexander Avenue starting May 15th. For your safety, we strongly recommend that bicyclists and pedestrians use the advised detour to Sausalito to avoid Alexander Avenue.

Paving operations will be occurring on Alexander Avenue from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday May 22nd and Thursday May 23rd. Paving operations will continue on Friday May 24th between 7:00 a.m. and noon. Delays of up to 15 minutes are possible during those times.
Old Bunker Road and Mitchell Road will also remain unpaved as the construction continues. Bicyclists are advised to use caution on the unpaved surfaces.
These changes will not result in any additional delays for the travelers on these roads and the maximum anticipated delays will remain as 15 minutes.
The Baker-Barry Tunnel and Bunker Road to McCullough Road continue to be closed to vehicles due to unsafe conditions. The NPS is working quickly to both identify the causes of the unsafe conditions and start the necessary repairs.

OLD BUNKER RD, MITCHELL RD, AND ALEXANDER AVE PAVEMENT UPDATES |
As Phase 2 construction activities continue, please expect unpaved road conditions on Old Bunker Road and Mitchell Road. Alexander Avenue’s pavement will also be removed for road grading in the upcoming week. Bicyclists and vehicles should use caution when traveling on the unpaved surface. These changes will not result in any additional delays for the travelers on these roads and the maximum anticipated delays will remain as 15 minutes.

BAKER-BARRY TUNNEL CLOSURE AND DELAYS ON BUNKER ROAD |
Due to unsafe conditions of the tunnel and a portion of road during construction, the Baker-Barry Tunnel and Bunker Road to McCullough Road will be closed to all vehicles except construction traffic for several weeks. All motor vehicles must use Conzelman Road to enter and exit the Headlands. (See map for detour route)
Bicyclists will be allowed to use the tunnel in both directions before 8:00 am and after 5:00 pm on weekdays and all day during weekends. During construction hours of 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on weekdays, all bicycles must use Conzelman Road to enter and exit the Headlands. (See map for detour route)
Expect no more than 15 minutes total delay on Bunker Road, Old Bunker Road, and Mitchell Road starting on April 26th through June 28th.

CONSTRUCTION DELAYS STARTING APRIL 1, 2013 |
Excavation using large equipment on Alexander Avenue starting on April 1st will result in delays (up to 15 minutes) and will continue through June 28th. Bicycles and pedestrians are advised to take a detour to Sausalito for their safety during the Alexander Avenue construction period. There will also be minimal delays on Bunker Road, Old Bunker Road, and Mitchell Road due to grading operations starting April 1st.
- Up to 15 minutes delays on Alexander Avenue from April 1st to July 3rd from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm Monday through Friday
- Minimal delays on Bunker Road, Old Bunker Road, and Mitchell Road starting April 1st from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday

PHASE 2 PRELIMINARY CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES CONTINUE |
Phase 2 preliminary construction work will continue from March 11th to March 29th. Minimal delays (maximum of 15 minutes) are anticipated for vehicles and bicyclists Monday through Friday during this time.
- March 11th to 29th on Bunker Road and Mitchell Road from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday
- March 18th to 29th on Alexander Avenue from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday

Construction Activities for Phase 2 include:
- Finish replacing asphalt on Field Road
- Reconstruction of the Alexander Avenue & W. Bunker Road (Danes Drive) intersection
- Restoration of wetlands and removal of Fort Cronkhite Dirt Overflow Lot
- Restoration of the Fort Cronkhite Parade Ground Quarry to its early phase quarry conditions to both enhance the natural resource and provide a visual reference to its historic use
- Construction of the Smith Road Parking Lot and Fort Cronkhite Parking Lot
- Resurfacing, restoration, and rehabilitation of Old Bunker Road, Mitchell Road, and Bunker Road (intersection of Old Bunker Road/ Mitchell Road to the Baker-Barry Tunnel)
- Construction of the Fort Cronkhite Annex Parking Lot near the Marine Mammal Center
- Guardrail replacement at East Bunker Road
